Satsang: Yoga Philosophy Group
Sun Date: Dec 11, 2016 From: 12:30 PM - 3:30 PM
An exploration of the rest of yoga
The Sanskrit word satsang (सत्सङ्ग) means "being in the company of fellow spiritual seekers." We will gather monthly to explore what the esoteric side of our yoga practice has to offer. Come learn about the philosophical worldview from which our yoga practice was born. We’ll take a deep and very relevant look at what the scriptures (starting with the foundational text, Yoga Sutra by Master Patanjali) have to say about getting happy in this world. We’ll figure out if these ancient scriptures have anything applicable to offer our modern culture, and what practices we can adopt in our daily lives to cultivate the rich and soulful gratification we seek.
Materials will be provided ahead of time upon registration. You will need to print your own docs. You are also encouraged to acquire a few different translations and commentaries, as part of our exploration will involve comparing and contrasting the text from different Eastern perspectives. Rule #1 in our studies: Learn to discern! Discernment is a very important skill for us budding philosophers.
Our gatherings will include:
- A short asana practice
- Guided meditation
- Yogic philosophy lecture and discussion
- A taste of kirtan
- And, of course, dark chocolate
Please sign up ahead of time and we'll offer to add you to our group Listserv to stay in touch between sessions. Bring a notebook, a pen, and an open heart. Yoga nerds UNITE!
