purpose of retreat

What longs to be seen and known from deep within, remains hidden and elusive to the busy mind. Because of this, we take regular retreat to find stillness, quietude and depth. Time away from our daily lives and devices, for the sole purpose of turning inward. Our retreat program is stacked with opportunities to quiet the mind, engage with the depths of the body, and commune with the most mysterious heart of hearts. Our retreats are not a vacation, although you will feel a kind of deep rest you perhaps have never known, and we commune in a stunning location that genuinely feeds the soul. Our retreats are not about entertainment, although you will be engaged with yourself and each other in a way that is utterly captivating. This is a unique experience and one you might treasure for your whole life.

Our daily schedule is comprised of five sessions of practice to help you be in deep, contemplative retreat. We encourage you to take the opportunity to settle in and see what majesty is available to you when you still your mind and truly direct all of your energy toward your own inner domain. Our mornings are spent in silence and we’ll explore even more expansive mauna throughout the retreat. Of course, the entire program is elective and you opt into the kind of retreat you want. In off hours, you may want to jump on a trail hike or have some beach or river time. Settling into the natural world is a significant aspect of the retreat experience.

Retreat - diving deep, inward and outward; being present, inward and outward; experiencing your reflection, inward and outward. Repeat, moment and moment again. The community during the retreat in Guatemala was absolutely soulful and soul-fulfilling. There is something about connecting with yourself and with your surroundings in community with others. The beauty of it is amplified, and the weight of it all is that much greater. - JW

Testimonials

If you go on vacation, you come back refreshed. Then the work/kids/dishes/bills/groceries/etc bullshit grab you and after a few weeks you're worn out again. If you go on retreat with the Shala community, you come back and the work/kids/dishes/bills/groceries/etc bullshit... isn't even bullshit anymore. Really! - EW

I am grateful for the vulnerable, safe, open space created by every person who attended. Being able to break open and pour out all of me, fully and honestly, in the embrace of my retreat family was truly special.   - Anonymous

Mira and Jarret offer space in retreat for the underlying simplicity and awe of life to surface. With their thoughtful guidance, I discovered a path that refined my orientation toward life, allowing me to connect more fully and embody love in a deeper way. Their dedication and caring approach made for a truly transformative experience, for which I'm endlessly grateful.   - RR

We live and move by splitting the light of the present, as a canoe’s bow parts water.
