That their work is overwhelming, family life is over-stuffed, and they’re reluctantly skipping their practice. Is it that the world re-emerging a bit more after two years living in an energetic bunker? There was a certain kind of simplicity over the last two years, no? With restriction came fewer options and a more simple day’s schedule. Like the relief you feel when you sit down at a new restaurant, pick up the menu and there’s only a half a dozen options. </p><p style="color:inherit;font-size:1em;margin:0 0 1.25em 0;font-weight:normal;font-family:'Andale Mono', 'Lucida Console', 'DejaVu Sans Mono', 'Bitstream Vera Sans Mono', 'Liberation Mono', Courier, monospace;line-height:1.5;margin-top:1.5em;margin-bottom:1.5em;" class="">I’m reminded of the Mahatma Gandhi quote “I have so much to accomplish today that I must meditate for TWO hours instead of one.” I feel that deeply. When I get my practice in (especially in the wee hours) I feel so vibrant and alive and available to my day. Primed and ready for it. And also ready to close the computer, say “no” when it’s too much, and stick to my commitments to what’s in support of who I want to be.</p><p class="" style="color:inherit;font-size:1em;line-height:1.618em;margin:0 0 1.25em 0;font-weight:normal;margin-bottom:0;font-family:'Andale Mono', 'Lucida Console', 'DejaVu Sans Mono', 'Bitstream Vera Sans Mono', 'Liberation Mono', Courier, monospace;">Yoga and meditation are not practices that <strong>take</strong> time. They are practices that <strong>give</strong> time. I mean that literally. It’s the listening. Yoga, meditation, work like that… they are practices of deep listening. As a result, they make us <strong>more</strong> productive, <strong>more</strong> creative, <strong>more</strong> problem-solvey and supportive and attentive and loving. Also, we get along with ourselves and our people better (dare I say ‘adore’ them?) when we’ve made it to practice. So you know… fight the good fight for us all.
