Shala Summer Camp
The Malas and What to do with them…
Morning practice | Mon-Fri August 3rd-7th
$175 Member / $200 Non-member
The summer months are coming to an end and the fall season will take on the familiar rush of a daily grind. Let’s gather for a week of intentional mornings with yoga, pranayama, meditation and rich conversation.
Our week will orient around an exploration of the Malas. In yogic philosophy (particularly in Tantra, aka: Hatha Yoga, and Kashmir Shaivism), the Malas (“impurity”) present three fundamental limitations of consciousness, which act as veils (maya) and cause an individual person to forget their divine nature. What that means in our experience of ourselves and the world is that we so regularly perceive ourselves as limited, small, disconnected from our true selves. We think of ourselves as not whole, not complete, and move about the world seeking a sense of reconnection and completion. Sometimes in more healthy and sometimes in less healthy ways, but almost always, with confusion. So often, it is these precise existential feelings that drive us to something like yoga.
Let’s let our minds and bodies immerse and explore. Come luxuriate in full mornings of practice. Let’s touch and grow more stable within our true selves. We will fill our cups!
