Yoga teacher mentorship

Your voice, your experience. refined.

Often folks ask if we offer Yoga Teacher Trainings at Shala. There’s a long list of reasons why I haven’t offered a TT in a bunch of years, not the least of which is that new teachers so often feel at the end of such a program, totally ill-prepared to teach, and that they’re lacking the confidence they wish they had. But of course, yoga teachers have to start somewhere! Where we really grow is in receiving mentorship. Mentor/mentee relationships have been pivotal in my own development. That very personal, dedicated and loving guidance, that honors wisdom in all it’s myriad forms and which works to coax it out in every possible way… that is the kind of support that has been invaluable on my path, and has allowed me to embody the seat of the teacher fully.

Working in an intimate setting to cultivate the skills necessary to offer expertly delivered teaching is key to our unfolding. Close mentorship, personal guidance, attention to detail… this is what I’d like to offer you: An intimate cohort community looking to expand together with direct, collective, and personal guidance. This group is for you if you’re an active yoga teacher longing to grow and refine your offerings, based on your individual needs and desires. Your unique voice and personal perspective on the Hatha Yoga practice will be honored and cultivated in this work.

About Mira

Mira started her studies of Yoga and Buddhism at the same time in the late ‘90s while in college at UT Austin. She spent 15 years in deep study and practice, traveling through India, Nepal and beyond, and learning from some of the most pre-eminent teachers in the world. These two explorations would form her orientation in her life and work forever.

Since 2001, she has taught yoga and meditation, led kirtan, and facilitated immersion in Eastern philosophy and the Indo-Tibetan psychologies throughout the US and internationally. Mira is credentialed at the highest levels as an expert teacher and continuing education provider. She teaches a practice informed by myriad yoga methods out of Shala, which she co-owns and operates with her partner Jarret.

“Mira sets high standards, then creates a non-intimidating environment that supports and loves each student into achieving them. I have become a much better yoga teacher (which I expected) but I have also changed the way I align my own body in practice (something I didn’t expect after 30 years of practicing yoga).  As a result, I am able to do asanas previously unavailable to me.”

“I have studied with many different yoga teachers, but Mira Shani has transformed the way I think about my role as a teacher and a human being. Mira has a deep well of knowledge and experience, but it is her dynamic enthusiasm and love for her students which create those magical moments of awakening.

—Liz Priestley - Teacher Training Student

Mira is a rare gem: a teacher who empowers you with knowledge not only about yoga, but about yourself. She will guide you through a compassionate process of self-discovery, challenging your mind, body, and spirit. You will sharpen your skills, clarify your vision, and focus your philosophy.”
